چکیده

Background Physical and cognitively stimulating recreational activities are lifestyle factors that may modify risk of late-life cognitive decline. We sought to examine the role retrospective ratings mid-life (age 40) physical activity engagement – change in these from age 40 study entry predicting cognition. hypothesized higher self-reported levels at 40, less decline over time, would be associated with cognition rapid Method Data were obtained 898 participants University California Davis Aging Diversity Cohort, a longitudinal aging demographically diverse older adults. Participants ranged 49-93 years (M = 75, SD 7.19). Self-reported participation quantified using Life Experiences Assessment Form. Confirmatory factor analysis established unidimensionality measurement invariance entry. Change was modeled latent scores. Cognitive outcomes annually (range 0-17 years) Spanish English Neuropsychological Scales, which measures episodic memory, semantic visuospatial processing, executive functioning. Multilevel structural equation modeling used regress four intercepts one global slope onto for activities, separate models. Result strongly performance all domains slope. However, not outcomes. In contrast, both after predictive Conclusion Mid-life level rate future data suggest maintenance (e.g., writing, taking classes, reading, arts & crafts) is more than continued levels.

Recreational and occupational physical activities and risk of breast cancer.

Physical activity has been hypothesized to reduce breast cancer risk, but an inverse association has not been consistently reported. In this review, we critically evaluate for coherence, validity, and bias the epidemiologic studies on recreational or occupational physical activity, discuss the biologic plausibility of the association, and identify areas for future research. Results from seven o...
